Outrun The Sun is an event coming up that I think is so important … helpful … fun.
Did you know that, just one sunburn, can greatly increase a child’s risk of developing melanoma and other skin cancers?
I think we all know someone who has had skin cancer. As a past sun worshipper, who spent a lot of hours with friends at the pool, at the beach, even in a lawn share sunbathing on my backyard patio, I’ve known several. I’m grateful and blessed to have never ended up with skin cancer.
This is probably information that you’ve heard or read before but it’s worth repeating. Melanoma, i.e. skin cancer, is the most common cancer in people ages twenty-five to twenty-nine. And, here’s a harsh fact … One American dies of melanoma, every hour. EVERY HOUR!
Here’s another harsh yet encouraging fact … Skin cancer is preventable!

Last year, Americans recycled sixty-three percent of used goods; this is the highest percentage to date. Isn’t that great? Americans are thinking outside the box and finding creative uses for items that they might have thrown out in previous years.
Folks have even found new uses for that wonderful toy famous for walking downstairs … a toy that required no electricity or batteries ... the Slinky. A springy wire that was originally intended to be used as a tension spring in a battleship engine horsepower meter that became a great stocking stuffer has left the toy box.
A few years ago I went to a business meeting where the speaker brought everyone in attendance there a small Slinky. He said we ought to keep it at our desk and play with it at least once a day. He suggested that the Slinky would help us to stay in touch with ...

Here’s an easy way to get started growing your own food without spending extra money.. Grow it from leftovers.
You can grow celery from the leftover stalk stub that you normally throw away. Just take a freshly cut celery bottom, soak it in warm water. Then, when you have time, plant it with the stalk side up. Just dig a small hole, fill it with water, and set the end in the hole, then cover it with an inch or so of soil. Water thoroughly. Within one to two weeks you’ll have a few stalks growing.
After re-growing celery, you can cut and plant the bottom again or you can cut stalks off as needed and just keep it re-growing in the garden or in a pot.
Green onions are easy to grow from leftovers too. Instead of tossing the white ends, put them in warm water ...
