A Second Opportunity
"Make sure your helmet is secured and fasten your seatbelt." Is that would we would hear before flying off to Kepler 22b?
Kepler 22b is the name of what could be the earth's twin planet. Isn't that amazing? Scientists say the temperature there is probably 72 degrees. That would make it feel something like San Diego.
As soon as I read about it, I started fantasizing about taking my family and everybody who matters to me to the new world.
What would we do to prepare? Would we reread our history, making note of everything that we could have done better ... i.e ... make sure that we didn't carry any diseases with us? Leave chemicals, criminals, and seeds of plants that we have no use for behind?
What would we do if we found "others" already there? Would we try to take over or would we join them ... learn from them ... and ... offer our own knowledge? Live as cohabiters instead of conquerors. I hope so. I hope that we would go in peace and live in peace. Not be judgmental.
Would we respect the land and the water this time? Keep them pure. How about the air? Would we develop solar power instead of polluting the air with the fumes of other fuels? Build windmills? Would we leave the tobacco seeds behind?
While the scientists are studying the planet to see if it truly is habitable, perhaps we can be making a list of all the things we would do differently. Plan ahead for a better world. Then, once we've compiled our list, we could start applying the changes today ... on this planet.
