Top 3 Reasons For Divorce
1) Division of duties
Makes sense to me. I have a friend who divorced her husband because he wouldn't lift a finger to help her do anything with the kids, the house... nothing. So, that's the division of duties.
I have another friend who hasn't been with her husband sexually in more than 2 years. She wants to make a move to make it happen, but fears being rejected by her own husband.
And another couple I'm close to almost lost their marriage over finances... secret bank accounts, etc. It all came to a head about 5 years ago and instead of divorcing, they decided to get super vulnerable and express empathy for each other. The wife said "ya know, when you spend like a drunken sailor I get scared and crave security" The husband said.. "I grew up with nothing and when I'm able to buy things, I feel like I'm providing and expressing love."
I think all 3 of those things -- sex, money, division of duties... they can be solved with vulnerability and empathy. I don't think we have a crisis of divorce in this country, I think we have a crisis of empathy (that goes for our current political discord too).
But maybe I'm wrong. I'm not married, but I have been to a lot of therapy :)
