Are you prepared for the next time a winter storm comes in?
If you’ve lived in Indiana long enough, you know the weather is unpredictable so it’s always better to be safe than sorry! The winter storm that just hit most of the east coast is still causing difficult travel conditions and power outages. Many people are stocking up on items to ride out the storm, but what should you stock up on?
Here are the top 5 essentials you need before a storm hits:
1. Food
Make sure to fill your pantry with nonperishable food items, such as canned goods, frozen meals, and even some perishable items.
2. Water
Make sure you have enough water for your family. You should be drinking about 1 gallon of water per day, per person so that means at the bare minimum each family member should have around 7 gallons of water.
3. Batteries
Make sure you have extra batteries for your flashlights, radios, and other battery operated devices.
4. First Aid Kit
Include a first aid kit as well as some over-the-counter medicines, such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, cold medicine, etc.
5. Salt/Iodine Tablets
Salt tablets are used to replenish your electrolytes when you are sweating a lot during the winter. Iodine tablets help purify water that has not been boiled for 20 minutes or more. You can even go as far as putting a few drops of bleach in your water to purify it.
