Guest Room Must-Haves to Make It Feel Like Home

Whether they're just crashing for a night, the weekend, or a little longer for the holidays, make sure your guests feel right at home! Whip your guest room into shape with these bathroom & bedroom essentials:
Hairdryers are clunky and a hassle to travel with, so many people don't. Only problem is that the friend/family member you're staying with might just have one in their house... and it's in the master bathroom. Don't make your guests ask for a hairdryer with sopping wet hair or make them wait while it's being used by you—make sure one is in their bathroom cabinet!
Stock your guest bathroom with general hair products like hairspray, men's hair gel, dry shampoo, etc. in case your guests forgot theirs!
Maybe your guests don't want to ask if you have meds like Immodium... Have some basics such as Advil, Tylenol, allergy medicine, Immodium, Lactaid, bandaids, Neosporin, etc. ready for them in the bathroom.
Who hasn't forgotten a basic bathroom necessity before? Have these ready for your guests: extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, hand soap, face wash or makeup remover, body wash for men & women, deodorant for men & women, feminine products, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, contact solution, nail clippers... basically anything you would keep in your master bathroom.
EXTRA TOILET PAPER
This should be common sense, but you'd be surprised how many guest bathrooms don't have extra toilet paper easily accessible...
You don't want your guests to resort to using toilet paper as a tissue. Have a box of tissues out on the bathroom counter for them!
Would you want to use old, tattered, stained towels that have been used for years & years? Neither do your guests. Invest in nice, quality guest towels. Set out the correct number of towels for your visitors (maybe on the bed in plain sight) before they get there AND have at least two extra towels and washcloths in your guest bathroom.

QUALITY SHEETS & BEDDING
Usually people throw old sheets they don't use anymore on to their guest bed... hey, if you don't want to sleep on them, neither do they. Keep your guests comfortable—invest in new sheets and bedding so they get a good night's sleep!
EXTRA PILLOWS & BLANKETS
Keep extra pillows and blankets handy for your guests if they like it extra cozy or get cold.
TABLE / FLOOR FAN
Similarly, provide a table or floor fan if your guests get hot or need a fan/white noise to sleep.
EXTRA PHONE CHARGER
We've all forgotten a phone charger while traveling before and it's not fun! Be prepared and have a spare phone charger ready for your guests. You can even build a charging station into a nightstand for hidden storage [WATCH HOW HERE]
ACCESS TO OUTLETS
Think about the layout of your guest bedroom and where you position the bed—don't make your guests hunt for an outlet that's behind a bed frame and hard to reach at the end of the day! Or, if there's no other layout you can do where your furniture fits in the room and the outlet will be blocked no matter what, plug in an extension cord.
SPACE IN THE CLOSET/DRESSER
Always invite your guests to unpack their bags so they don't have to live out of their suitcase during their stay—have empty hangers ready for them in the closet & at least 2 drawers cleared.
Either they forgot to ask and don't want to bother you because you're getting ready for bed or they just plain forgot what it was... no one likes to be that person who asks for the WiFi password multiple times, especially for different devices. Have the password ready & waiting for them on the nightstand!

NIGHTSTAND ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BED
Yes, you need to have a nightstand on both sides of the bed! If you have a couple staying with you, they'll want to put their phones, water, and whatever else they need within reach.

BOTTLES OF WATER
Maybe different faucet water than they're used to upsets their stomach. Maybe they don't want to fumble around in the dark in a house they're not familiar with to get a glass in the middle of the night. Always remember to set a couple bottles of water on the night stand for your guests!
MIDNIGHT SNACK BASKET
Have a variety of small snacks & mints in the guest room in case they get hungry in the middle of the night and don't want to make noise in the kitchen!
FULL LENGTH MIRROR
Just like you, your guests want to make sure they're dressed to impress—make sure there's a full length mirror in there!
Because 1) they don't have to bend down to get something out and 2) they won't put their suitcase on your clean bedding!
Really, it's all about making your guests feel as comfortable as they are in their own home. If there's a snack, a drink, a certain product, etc. that you know your guest likes... GET IT FOR THEM! You'll be the host/hostess with the mostess :)
