If you are over the age of 60, you probably feel pretty good about yourself.  According to the Psychological Bulletin, your self-esteem increases the older you get and we feel the best about ourselves at age 60.  In fact, over the next decade you’ll continue to feel good about yourself.

It’s noteworthy that it’s not when we are young and energetic or when are at the top of career.  No, it’s when many are at the tail-end of their careers or when we may no longer be at our physical peak. So why does our self-esteem increase as we age?  In short, it’s maturity.  More bluntly, it’s probably we no longer base our self-esteem by comparing ourselves to other or by our highs and lows.

It’s a shame that we don’t recognize earlier in life that our worth shouldn’t be tied to our paychecks or by what we see in the mirror.  It shouldn’t be tied to how nice our house is compared to our neighbors or if our kids are star athletes (or if we even have kids or married).  When we can finally separate our self-esteem from these things that really don’t determine are worth, you’ll be much more comfortable in your skin. You’ll be free.  You’ll be content,  You’ll have peace.  And don’t we want more of that?  The good news is, you don’t have to wait until your 60.
