No Manual For Marriage? Melinda Gates Wrote Her Own
Tune Up Tuesday is where I give you a little nugget you can use to tune up your relationship (Tuesday mornings around 8:20) This week -- a Tune Up Tuesday from one of the richest ladies in the world. Where Melinda Gates says her path to a happy marriage began! There might be something in her path for you.
In a recent interview, Melinda said marriage didn’t come with a manual… so, with 3 young kids she started writing her own manual – one night after dinner. And this was long before they were super rich, by the way. One night she realized she was still in the kitchen a good 10, 15 minutes after everybody else doing the last-minute thing. And sometimes in the moment her frustration or anger would just come out. So one night her family stood up after dinner and people started to melt away, like, off they go upstairs. So hands on her hips… she said – “I don't want anyone leaving the kitchen until I leave the kitchen!” Everybody stayed and helped and she says it’s been that way ever since. Even now… kids are grown and they’re some of the richest people on the planet… and she and Bill still do the dishes together every night. And now, she doesn’t have that frustration or anger anymore.
So, is there something causing anger or stress in your relationship? Figure out what it is, like she did with cleaning up after dinner…and find a loving way to share that with the people in your house… and just see what happens. My experience, if you have a loving partner is that when you speak your needs in love… beautiful things happen for both of you.
