What Forgiveness Is And 4 Things It Is Not
Talking about forgiveness! If there’s not someone in your life right now you need to forgive, there will be.
That’s this week’s Tune Up Tuesday – a little nugget you can use to tune up a relationship. If you want a barrier removed and want to bring restoration to a relationship, then often an apology needs to be offered and grace needs to be extended. If you don’t feel like forgiving, that’s ok because I don't think forgiveness is a feeling. Instead, it’s a decision to offer grace instead of demanding justice.
So, that’s what it is. Here is what it’s not…
1) Forgiveness does mean you forget what happened.
2) Forgiveness doesn’t necessarily remove consequences of what happened.
3) Forgiveness by itself does not restore trust.
4) Forgiveness does not always mean reconciliation.
I can think of a friend in my life who hurt me repeatedly. I shared with them that they were hurting me and they continued to do it. So, we cut ties. I forgive them. I don’t demand any sort of justice from them, but the consequences are still there…and the consequence in this case is we’re not friends anymore.
And not forgiving? Well, you’ve heard this. That’s like taking poison and expecting it to kill someone else.
