Do you ever find yourself saying things like …

“I just don’t want to fight anymore.”

“I’m tired of just scraping by.”

“I don’t want to disappoint them.”

Nobody wants any of these things.  But did you notice all of these phrases are put in such a way of things you don’t want or want to avoid?

We do that a lot. We focus on things we don’t want. It’s like playing defense all the time – I just want to keep the bad things away versus pursuing something better.

The goal shouldn’t be to stop fighting with your spouse.  The goal should be I want to communicate better. The goal shouldn’t be to not struggle financially anymore, but to be better with your money.

Yes – these differences can be subtle, but it also creates a positive mindset focused on moving forward and growth. Just trying to keep the bad stuff away is exhausting and in many ways, it’s settling.

Take time today to examine an area of your life you are struggling with and ask yourself – “do I just want to avoid the bad or do I want to pursue something better?”
