In addition to hosting mornings on B105.7, I work in the afternoons as a therapist (at Evolve Therapy in Greenwood, Indiana) and on Tuesday mornings I share a nugget you may be able to use to “tune up” your relationship.  This morning, a new study finds this one trait in particular is an important indicator of successful relationships.

That trait?  Humility.  That can sometimes be confused with being meek, soft spoken, or having low self-esteem…but it’s really none of that.  Humility is being able to take an honest view of yourself, being able to assess your deficiencies or growth opportunities… without denying your skills and strengths.

Humility can be tough to measure in relationships, because false humility is a thing.  They found that there’s a strong connection between humility and forgiveness.  If your partner says something inconsiderate or makes some sort of rupture, it’s easier to forgive them if they have humility.  In summary, it’s good to have a partner who recognizes that making mistakes is part of being human and they don’t have any problem owning theirs.
