Tune Up Tuesday!  In addition to hosting mornings on B105.7, I work in the afternoons as therapist (at Evolve Therapy in Greenwood, IN).  On Tuesday mornings I share a little nugget or two that you might be able to use to sort of “tune up” a relationship in your life.

Today, why do we argue?

Dr. Gary Smalley says arguments reveal the heart and they almost always stem from unmet emotional needs.  Little things like cleaning out the car are not important to my husband, Andy.  But to me, it is because I hate clutter or disorder.  What am I saying?  One of my emotional needs is to have order in the house… and the car.  Clutter or disorder is emotionally upsetting to me.  The wisest and happiest of spouses will look to understand the emotional need behind the argument.

Why are they so upset about something that seems so trivial to me?

Why is my co-worker always trying to pick a fight?

Seeking to understand the emotional needs of others can diffuse arguments, help pave the way for healthy communication, and help you resolve conflict faster.
