Tune Up Tuesday!  In addition to hosting this morning show, I work in afternoons as a therapist…and so, on Tuesdays I share little nuggets you might be able to use to “tune up” your relationship.  Today, going through this new poll that names what people say are the 3 most important things to talk about before getting married.

  1. Kids
  2. Finances
  3. 5-10 year plans

The kids.  Are you having them or not?  If so, how many, how are you going to have them, and when?

Finances. What does financial stability mean to you?  What are your thoughts about debt?

5 to 10 year plan.  This is a great conversation to have, even if you’ve been married for years.  In 5-10 years, where do you hope to be professionally, what personal things would you like to accomplish, what goals do we have for our relationship?  For our living arrangements – do we want to stay here?  If so – what do we want to do to this place?  Or where would be open to moving?

It’s amazing to me the number of couples who have been together for years… and they just never talk about those things.  This is a conversation that needs to happen over and over again, because we’re dynamic beings.  We change.  What we hoped for 5 years ago may not be what we hope for today.  And it’s important to share hopes and dreams with your significant other… especially as those hopes and dreams evolve.

What would you add to this list?
